Welcome to our Top
11 FAQs
- How do I get Video into my Afiniti account?
- You have two options: Send us
your videotapes, or capture your digital
video through Afiniti.
If you want to send us tapes, please see
FAQ #8 for more information.
For direct import of your video into
Afiniti, you can either import existing
digital video files on your computer, or
capture video directly from your digital
camcorder. To capture video from your
camcorder for online sharing, you will need
to have a FireWire cable to transfer the video
to your computer (more
info here). After you have the
FireWire cable, plug it in and open your Afiniti
player. There is an option that says “Add.” This
will take you through the process of connecting
your camcorder to your computer and importing
your video to Afiniti to create custom home
movies!
**Also important: It is imperative you know
if your computer has a high-speed USB card
or a FireWire card installed. This is not the same as a FireWire cable.
Many current computers come with
FireWire built-in. If not, most cards are relatively
affordable to buy.

How do I order DVDs of my online movies
- After you have made all the edits to
your movie, you will want to create a Director’s
DVD. This allows you to create scenes, add
titles to scenes, add a background to scene
menus and also create custom DVD packaging.
After you have done this, go to the “Burn”
option in the Afiniti player. Virtually all you
have to do is choose the movies you want to burn
to DVD (considering case packaging and color) or
grab digital stills if you want to make a
SnapShot DVD, and submit your order. A window
will come up asking for all of your shipping
information with a secure confirmation for your
privacy. Before you know it, you will be
transferring all your home movies to DVD with
just one click.
- How do I check the status of an order?
- Checking your order status is simple.
Once logged in, you go to “My Account,”
which is located next to the Login button.
When you arrive here, there is a list of
options including checking your order
status. This will allow you to preview your
past and current orders. You will also be
able to view the order’s description, how
many tapes or DVD’s are in that order, as
well as prices and options.
- What is your pricing?
- That Depends on whether you are a
"Do-It-Yourself" or if you prefer to sent
your video to us.

- What's my password?
- Your password should be something only
you know and should be kept somewhere safe
if you have to write it down. If you forget
your Afiniti account password, go to the
sign-up page and go to the “Forgot Your
Password?” link and just enter your e-mail
address and your password will be sent to
you promptly.
- Where can I view my account information?
- When you go to the HomeMovie.Com
homepage, there are five different options
for navigation in the top right of the
window. First, you want to Login. If you are
already a member, type in your phone number
and password. Next, click on "My Account" at
the top of the page.
Once here, you can view
your order history and summary statement,
change or edit your credit card, send in
videotapes and film, check for compatibility
and get help with Afiniti.
- How long does a DVD order take?
- After you have either imported or sent
us your videotapes or film, an order is
placed in-house. Then you will receive an
order number via e-mail from our
shipping/receiving department. From the time
the order is placed to the time it is
shipped, usually takes about 3 to 5 business
days.
-
How do I send in videotapes to be processed?
- After setting up an account with
HomeMovie.Com, you need to login. Next, you
will want to go into “My Account.” In your
account, you have the option to list the
tapes you want to process. Instructions for
shipping your videotapes are explained on
this page as well. Remember it is very
important to place an order with
HomeMovie.Com before you send your tapes. In
addition, be sure to label your tapes with
the order number so that our receiving
personnel can easily submit your order to
our production team with no confusion. This
is especially important if you have more
than one tape in a particular order.
- What kind of tapes does HomeMovie.Com process?
- HomeMovie.Com can process virtually
all videotape formats. The following analog and
digital formats are acceptable formats to send:
Analog
- VHS, VHS-C & SVHS
- 8mm
- Hi-8
Digital
- Digital 8
- MiniDV
- DVCAM
- DVCPRO
- BetaMax
- BetaSP (large & small formats)
- MicroMV
MiniDVD
Although HomeMovie.Com accepts MiniDVD, we do
not recommend this format as a dependable way to
store your memories for the following reasons:
- Has a lower bit rate than MiniDV.
- Only runs at a speed of 2.5 Mb/s, whereas
MiniDV runs at a speed of 3.5 Mb/s.
- A 60-minute MiniDVD tape can only hold around
1.5 GB worth of data, in relation to a MiniDV
which can hold up to 13 GB of data
- You have to make sure your DVD player will be
able to read a CD-R/W format. The DVD player
must be able to identify the CD-R/W MiniDVD as
an ordinary DVD-video disc. Generally most DVD
players identify CD-R/W as VCD, SVCD or CD Audio
and not DVD-Video.
- Why are my photos sideways?
- The reason your photos may appear
sideways in Afiniti is because you probably
composed the shot this way when you took it.
After importing your digital pictures, go to
our Pics area. Here, you have the option to
edit your photos, specifically rotating
them. You can easily change other attributes
of your pictures such as sharpness,
brightness, contrast and even view them in
black & white mode!
- How do I grab digital stills from my video?
- Once you get accustomed to using
Afiniti, grabbing stills will be a piece of
cake!
In the Afiniti player under “Movies,” you
will want to go into the “Make” area. When
playing your imported video, you can click
on the camera icon button just to the left
of the preview screen. This allows you to
take a still of any frame in your video!
With Afiniti’s SnapShot option, you can grab
up to 100 picture stills from your video and
drag and drop them into a personalized album
to share with family and friends!
