Your first step will be to determine what kind of film you have. Below you'll find graphics that depict
in actual size the popular three film formats that HomeMovie.com can convert into DVD. Simply match the
graphic to the size and sprocket holes pattern. Then you can continue onto the Order Calculator below.

|
8mm Film
Regular8 film is 8mm in width, with single sprockets
down one side of the film, and these sprocket holes
are generally larger than on Super 8mm. |
Super 8mm Film
Super 8 is also 8mm in width, and may have sound. It
has smaller sprockets holes down one side than
Regular 8.
|
16mm Film
16mm film is (you guessed it!) 16mm wide, and may
have sound. It has two sprocket holes on either side
of the frame and runs twice as fast as Regular 8mm
film. |

You can figure out how much film
you have using our guide below.

« Use this table to estimate
the cost
of your film transfer. Use the calculator below to
order (you must be logged
in to use the calculator).
The calculator will estimate the
cost of your film transfer and
the quantity of archival master
digital videotapes that will be
needed for your film transfer
order.
Please note, the total cost is an
estimate.
Your card will not be charged
until the film transfer is
completed and the order total is
adjusted for the actual feet of
film transferred and the actual master digital
videotapes used. |

Shipping Your Film
We recommend that you don't send all of your film reels
in the same box. While HomeMovie.Com has never had a
customer's materials lost in transit (via the mail, UPS, or
FedEx), we believe in taking every precaution when shipping
such valuable items. Break up large amounts of film into a
few separate shipments. As a rule of thumb, we suggest
sending no more than 20 hours of raw footage per box (this
is why our order page in Afiniti only allows up to 5 DVD
movies per order). Use our
UPS Store® Locator to find a UPS Store® near you.
Note: If you’d like us to transfer your film reels in a
particular order, please number them 1 through X. Remember
to keep the film grouped by type, numbering all the 8mm
reels separately from the 16mm reels. If you decide not to
number some of the reels, we’ll just transfer them randomly.
